CS-1396 DWSD Comprehensive Water Audit

TYJT is the prime consultant for the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) to perform a comprehensive water audit for their entire water transmission and distribution system.

Recommendations from the results of this work will be based on the established AWWA standards for best management practices for water utilities. Performance indicators will be identified for DWSD to set long-term leakage reduction targets.

The project work includes:

  • A water leak sound survey of 1500 miles of Detroit distribution pipes.

  • A comprehensive analysis of Detroit water use to determine the unaccounted-for water within the city. The work will include both metered and non-metered uses.

  • A main flushing program for the City of Detroit .

  • A meter analysis of DWSD's wholesale meters.

  • An analysis of water loss within the large transmission system that serves over 125 customers.

  • Assessing the accuracy of the plant meters at the five water treatment plants using insertion magnetic meters to compare flow rates.
