Management Corner
|
From the management corner, Mr. George Karmo, TYJT’s Senior Vice President, provides an update on the status of selected major projects being pursued and/or completed by TYJT.
Our Water practice continued negotiations with the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) for a 2-year Water Audit Project contract. We believe that we have addressed all of DWSD’s issues/comments. We have submitted a refined work plan including level of effort and cost for the Department’s action. We hope that this project will be included on the agenda for the
next Board of Water Commissioner's meeting scheduled for June 23, 2004.

Our Water practice also continued its negotiations with DWSD as part of the TYJT/Detroit Contracting, Inc. Joint Venture for the Security Design Build project DWSD is actively negotiating with the TYJT/Detroit contracting Team and one other team. DWSD is expected to make a final decision on the successful team within the next several weeks.
Our Wastewater practice continues to deliver projects to our clients and embark on new projects. The DWSD PC-750 construction project for the Dewatering Facilities on the Lower Level of Complex ll at the Detroit Wastewater Treatment Plant is near completion. The project is undergoing a 30-day testing prior to the plant’s acceptance. We anticipate the project to be operational mid-July 2004. Also, TYJT’s participation in the procurement activities of PC-744 (program for the rehabilitation and upgrade of the Detroit Wastewater Treatment Plant) is substantially completed. One construction contract, DWP-1036, Plant Wide HVAC Equipment and Controls Upgrade, remains to be procured and is scheduled for advertisement the week of June 28, 2004.
Our Wastewater practice has recently started work on the DWSD Oakwood CSO facility design as a subconsultant to Camp Dresser & Mckee (CDM). Our role is to participate in the civil/site, process, mechanical and electrical design. We are also awaiting DWSD selection of the consultant team for the Upper Rouge CSO Tunnel project. TYJT was successful in being included as a subconsultant in all four (4) proposals received by DWSD. We expect the selection of the winning team by mid-July 2004 and the start of work notification in August 2004.
Our Infrastructure practice has initiated planning efforts to participate in the design of the North Terminal Redevelopment project at the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. As part of the Gensler Team, recently selected by the Wayne County Airport Authority for negotiations of an Architect/Engineer contract, TYJT’s role will include responsibility for the civil/site landside design. In this role, TYJT will be responsible for design and construction services including management of disadvantage member firms of ABE Associates, BBF Associates and SOMAT. Our staff is in the process of developing a detailed scope of services and level of effort as part of team’s contract negotiations efforts.
Lastly, TYJT’s New York office is, for the first time, pursuing an opportunity with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) as a prime consultant. TYJT/New York, assisted by our marketing group in Detroit, has submitted on June 18, 2004, our proposal for the rehabilitation of four (4) storm water pumping stations. Our major subconsultant for this project will be Malcolm Pirnie (MPI).
