Saying Goodbye to David Yang

After more than 18 years of dedicated hard work at TYJT, David Yang, our Executive Vice President and Principal decided to call it a “Career”.

David joined TYJT in May of 1988 bringing with him a wealth of experience gained through his previous employment at the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department, Corps of Engineers and other consulting engineering firms

David’s ability to work with people and his efforts to establish networks and partnerships with client representatives and colleagues at the local and national consulting and contractor firms became quickly evident.

This lead to TYJT’s Upper Management decision to engage David in a leadership role to grow the firm’s “Water Practice”. David then went to work and the rest is part of TYJT’s history. Our Water Practice today is one of the three major practices which has and continues to contribute to the professional growth and financial success of TYJT; thanks to David’s leadership and the hard work of the staff.

With his retirement, David is leaving a legacy at TYJT of a visionary professional with a “business and street smart” mentality. He will be remembered for his contribution to TYJT’s successful completion of major projects such as the DWSD Corrosion Control and PC-713 Instrumentation and Control Programs. He has also mentored and prepared the next generation of the “Water Practice” leadership.

David Yang, P.E. Executive V. P. and Principal

We have enjoyed our association with David. We will miss him. On behalf of all TYJT staff, we wish David and his family the best of luck and a long, healthy and happy retirement

Although Bob Karber has never been one for the glamour of the cameras, the Southfield Observer was able to catch our affable engineer at the Nine Mile Road Bridge opening ceremony on October 12, 2006 as Mayor Brenda Lawrence cut the ribbon. Other notables in the picture included Mike Clyne, who assisted Bob in the design, the City Engineer, Wayne Bonus (next to Mike) who managed the project for the city and the DPW Director, Gary Mekjian (on the far left).

The project replaced the 74-year old bridge that spanned the Rouge River and it was TYJT’s first task as a subconsultant to HRC on their Southfield Municipal Engineering Contract. The project was a collaborative effort between TYJT and HRC in which TYJT designed the bridge and HRC was responsible for the river hydraulics and bridge approaches. The bridge design was comprised of 11 pre-stressed beams spanning the river at just over 100 feet long as well as the abutments and wingwalls

The bridge was finished on time and within the $2.6 million budget.
